ServiceTitan, Jobber and Housecall Pro organize customers, jobs, scheduling and invoicing, and several offer booking, texting or automation features. Software can record and remind, but someone still has to answer the question, qualify the job and confirm the next step. Check both the features and who runs them for you.
What field service software is built for
Separate managing work from deciding who handles each inquiry. A system may keep customer and job records, schedules and invoices together, while a team member or configured automation handles a particular reply. Start with what your account actually does, not a general claim that software cannot follow up.
The current ServiceTitan feature list and Housecall Pro feature list include scheduling, dispatching and invoicing. Jobber's feature list includes scheduling, customer records and invoicing. Sources accessed October 31, 2026; availability and configuration must be checked for your account.
Lead-related features the vendors currently document
This is a focused reading of official product documentation, not a vendor ranking or a promise about your subscription. Sources were accessed October 31, 2026. No vendor pricing, affiliation or CallBack Engine connection is implied.
ServiceTitan
ServiceTitan: features (accessed October 31, 2026) lists online booking, two-way SMS, automated alerts and call recording. Its ServiceTitan: manage bookings (accessed October 31, 2026) distinguishes an incoming booking request from booking it as a job: some Web Scheduler setups need a CSR to follow up, while others confirm the requested appointment automatically. Ask which process your team uses.
Jobber
Jobber: features (accessed October 31, 2026) lists online booking, request management and two-way text messaging. Check which features are included and enabled in your own account.
Jobber: Automations (accessed October 31, 2026) describes scheduled quote follow-up by email or text, subject to plan availability, recipient settings and how the quote was sent.
Jobber: Receptionist (accessed October 31, 2026) documents a separate Receptionist feature for calls and texts, including an optional SMS send-back when a caller disconnects before a conversation starts. That setting has eligibility conditions; it is not a claim that every missed call on every Jobber account gets a text.
Housecall Pro
Housecall Pro: features (accessed October 31, 2026) lists online booking and a pipeline dashboard alongside its job-management features. The Housecall Pro: Voice Settings Overview (accessed October 31, 2026) describes configurable missed-call text automation for existing customers, with business-hours or custom-date settings. It also says an online booking link can be included if Online Booking is available. Confirm your account's Voice and booking setup instead of assuming these are universal features.
The gap is what happens when a feature needs a person
Your dispatcher may already answer daytime calls and work the inbox well. If so, begin with the exceptions rather than buying overlapping coverage. Check an unread web request, an after-hours missed call and a quote waiting for an office response. Treat these as examples to investigate, not proof of a problem at every shop.
Automated acknowledgments, booking confirmations and sent-quote reminders solve different tasks. Identify which task the customer needs, which feature is enabled and who handles a reply or exception. A quote waiting for a decision belongs to your team's estimate process, not CallBack Engine's scope.
Questions to ask about your own setup
- Which call, form, email, referral and ad sources actually appear in this system?
- Who receives an alert, and who is responsible for acting on it?
- What happens if nobody responds within your shop's chosen target time?
- Does online booking capture a request or confirm an appointment?
- Which reminders are enabled, who reads the replies and how are opt-outs applied?
- Who handles an unclear job, an urgent exception or a request outside your service area?
Walk through one illustrative record from arrival to outcome. Check what your staff can see and what they have to do, rather than deciding from a feature checklist alone.
Working alongside your field service software
Your options may include assigning an in-house owner, using the system's own configured automations or arranging outside managed follow-up for a defined gap. Compare the responsibilities and avoid sending overlapping reminders. Keep your existing record system unless you have a separate reason to change it.
CallBack Engine follows up with leads, gathers job details, checks fit, then hands them to the customer's team for scheduling. It is not a CRM replacement and does not follow up on quotes after they are sent.
CRM connections are not part of the standard setup. If a customer asks, CallBack Engine first confirms their system, what needs to sync, and whether it can support it. The work is scoped separately, case by case, and is never automatic or promised. Manual scheduling works without a CRM; Google Calendar booking is optional when connected.
Use the answering service vs AI receptionist comparison to separate live call coverage from follow-up. The contractor lead-response checklist helps you write down the responsibilities.
Run the 20-lead check
Use the 20-lead test to inspect what happened in your own office. Keep fit separate from handling, and record what you cannot verify as unknown. A small sample helps you ask better questions; it does not prove a conversion rate or show that you need another tool.
See the CallBack Engine service overview for the supported new-inquiry workflow, or see how lead response works in the demo. The demo illustrates lead response; it does not promise a connection to your CRM.
Questions and answers
Does ServiceTitan follow up on leads automatically?
ServiceTitan documents online booking, two-way SMS and automated alerts, but what happens to a particular request depends on configuration. Its booking documentation describes both CSR follow-up and automatic confirmation setups. Check the enabled workflow and who handles replies and exceptions in your own account.
Does Jobber or Housecall Pro text missed callers?
Their official documentation describes different conditional workflows. Jobber Receptionist has an optional SMS send-back for certain callers who disconnect before a conversation starts. Housecall Pro Voice describes configurable missed-call texts to existing customers. Check the relevant feature, settings and eligibility; neither description means every missed caller on every plan receives a text.
Do I need another tool if I already have an FSM?
Not necessarily. Check your existing features and assign responsibility before adding anything. The question is whether a real gap remains after configuration, staff coverage and exception handling are clear, not whether your software belongs to a particular category.
Does CallBack Engine replace my CRM?
No. CallBack Engine follows up supported leads, gathers job details, checks fit and hands them to the customer's team for scheduling. Your business keeps its record system and final service decisions. CallBack Engine does not follow up on sent quotes.
Can CallBack Engine connect to ServiceTitan, Jobber or Housecall Pro?
CRM connections are not part of the standard setup. If a customer asks, CallBack Engine first confirms their system, what needs to sync, and whether it can support it. The work is scoped separately, case by case, and is never automatic or promised. Manual scheduling works without a CRM; Google Calendar booking is optional when connected.
